Pure Iron vs. Q235 Steel
Composition
Pure Iron:
Pure iron consists solely of the iron element (Fe), with minimal impurities. It is the most basic form of iron and has a silvery-white appearance.
Q235 Steel:
Q235 steel is a type of carbon structural steel, which primarily consists of iron (Fe). However, it also contains a small percentage of carbon (C), along with other alloying elements such as silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), sulfur (S), and phosphorus (P). The carbon content in Q235 steel is relatively low, making it a type of low-carbon steel.
Properties
Pure Iron:
Soft and ductile: Pure iron is relatively soft and can be easily bent, stretched, and formed into various shapes.
Good electrical and thermal conductivity: It conducts electricity and heat well, making it suitable for electrical applications.
Low strength and hardness: Due to its purity, pure iron lacks the strength and hardness needed for many structural applications.
Susceptible to corrosion: When exposed to oxygen and water, pure iron is prone to corrosion, forming rust.
Q235 Steel:
Moderate strength and hardness: Q235 steel has a yield strength of 235 MPa and an ultimate tensile strength ranging from 375 to 460 MPa. This makes it suitable for a wide range of structural applications.
Good ductility and toughness: Despite its strength, Q235 steel remains ductile and tough, allowing it to absorb energy and withstand impact without fracturing.
Good weldability and machinability: Q235 steel can be easily welded and machined to meet specific requirements.
Improved corrosion resistance compared to pure iron: Due to the presence of alloying elements, Q235 steel is less susceptible to corrosion than pure iron.
Applications
Pure Iron:
Pure iron is primarily used in electrical applications such as电磁铁, transformers, and other electrical devices due to its excellent electrical conductivity.
It is also used in the production of wrought iron, which is often used for decorative purposes due to its malleability and ability to be easily cast into intricate designs.
Q235 Steel:
Q235 steel is widely used in building structures, bridges, vehicles, boilers, containers, ships, and other manufacturing industries.
It is also used to produce mechanical parts and components that require moderate strength, good ductility, and corrosion resistance.
